Sparkling and Inspired

[…] The programme opens with Haydn, who, at the age of over sixty, accepted the invitation to London, where his compositional creativity flourished. In the hands of the Schwarzenberg Trio, this Trio in C major sparkles with the sheer joy of music-making; crisp articulation sharpens the musical contours, while pauses are shaped with a keen sense of timing. Following the traditional model, the piano takes the lead; the violin and cello only later emancipated themselves from their accompanying role, in parallel with the rise of the bourgeoisie. Yet one experiences three independent musicians who unite with intense concentration in shaping the performance together, bringing Haydn’s sparkling spirit to life with remarkable empathy and vitality—most strikingly in the finale.
