The Vienna-based ensemble delights as a mood-lifter.
[…] This album as a whole has a refreshing, invigorating effect, and can be recommended here as an antidote to the prevailing pandemic gloom. Beethoven’s early E-flat major Trio, his Op. 1/1, delights with springlike freshness and a Scherzo that almost seems to swing. And Mendelssohn’s Op. 49? Though set in D minor, it is nevertheless a mood-lifter: the luxuriant melodies, the goosebump-inducing Andante (that final minute!), and the buoyant finale sweep away even the heaviest existential worries. Of course, this also owes much to the Schwarzenberg Trio’s lightness of touch, buoyant rhythmic vitality, and compact ensemble playing. […]
