Mezzo-soprano Corinna Scheurle and pianist Hanna Bachmann captivated the audience at the Röthis Schlössle concerts.
[…] At their concert in the Röthis Schlössle, the two artists captivated the audience above all with two song cycles. Corinna Scheurle, who grew up bilingual in a German-Hungarian family, performed Béla Bartók’s Five Songs, Op. 16, in her native tongue — bringing attention to a work little known in this region. With their earthy and unusual diction, and their distinctive tonal colours, these songs to texts by Endre Ady radiated a suspenseful and mysterious atmosphere.

Characteristic intervalls, scales and harmonies modelled on Hungarian folk music took had a symbolic character. A lost love was portrayed with delicate analogies to images of autumn and the sea.
With these songs, Corinna Scheurle and Hanna Bachmann offered enriching insights into the art songs by Béla Bartók.
